in a circular motif on the side panel. HIGHEST MEDAL VIENNA 1873 - as displayed in the second circular motif on the side panel. The Vienna Universal Exhibition was held in 1873 - the year coinciding with the Emperor's 25th year anniversary. Medals were awarded and presumably J.F. Nagel received a medal, as featured above, showing the Emperor's head on the front side and the words DEM VERDIENSTE, translating to "THE MERIT" on the reverse side. Gin bottles featuring this pictorial motif are quite common, but they have an important connection to the history of gin. |
