Shoulder seal reads : J. PFAFF / 16 EXCHANGE STREET / BOSTON

Jacob Pfaff is listed in the Boston Directory for the year 1855 as a Wine Merchant at 16 Exchange Street.

With a Dutch family background it is most likely that schnapps / gin was imported in bulk from Schiedam, then distributed in Boston. The seal on the side panel displays "SCHIEDAM SCHNAPPS" which supports this theory.

Double seal case bottles are very rare and desirable, and this particular example now resides in Australia, perhaps 1 of 3 known.

I suggest that these particular bottles were not made in The Netherlands, and were produced in America by Pfaff for distribution to his clientelle.

Henry and Jacob Pfaff opened a brewery in 1857 which operated as H. & J. Pfaff Brewery until 1893.
